Google UK Launches Property Search Engine

Wed, 16 Jun 2010
Google UK has teamed up with a number of UK estate agents to launch a new property search facility on its Google Maps service.

The internet giant’s new Real Estate Search tool, which goes live today, allows users to search for property for sale or rent in the UK by postcode or location.

Users can then select properties from the 'More' list to see all the listings in that area from Google’s estate agency partners. They can also refine their search by price, type of property, and numbers of bedrooms and bathrooms .

In addition to house-hunting, the service also allows homeowners to list their properties directly and free of charge.

Andrew Foster, product manager at Google, said: "Given the importance of location to a home search, we've made it easy for home buyers and renters to see listings that match their criteria on Google Maps."

"We know that many UK home buyers are already using Google Maps in their house-hunting, and by adding property listings to the map we're putting everything together for them in one place."

Estate agents that have signed up to have their properties listed for free by Google include Spicer Haart, Bairstow Eves, Bridgfords and Sotherby's International. Further listings come from online property portals including Zoopla, SmartNewHomes, Zoomf and Vebra.

Commenting on the partnership, Alex Chesterman, founder and CEO of Zoopla.co.uk, said: "Google is an important start point in the online journey for many consumers, helping them find relevant content which is very complementary with our business which combines property listings with market data and a variety of tools to help consumers make better property decisions."
