Mortgage upturn reported by estate agents

Fri, 23 Jan 2009
According to data from the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), estate agent members of the association have seen a slight upturn in housing market activity. Both buyers and sellers have reportedly showed greater interest in entering the property market in the last month.

According to the NAEA, activity during January could have bucked up considerably. The NAEA were reported as commenting: "If there is any chance that these much discussed greens shoots of recovery are to take root, it is up to Mervyn King to live up to his promise to do everything possible to bring fluidity back to the market."

The positive data from estate agents flies in the face of news from the mortgage industry, where 2008 saw a slump of 30 per cent in mortgage lending .
