Edinburgh and Middlesbrough have been cited as the top and bottom of places to live in Britain by Channel 4's programme Location, Location, Location.
A special edition of this property programme highlighted the leading 20 best and worst places in the UK to live. Edinburgh tops the list with low unemployment, a historic centre, as well as prices below the UK average.
Edinburgh is the flower of Scotland and the entire UK now.
What renders it such a winner is that the average house there sells for only £205,000 which is £5,000 below the UK average house price.
On the other hand, Middlesbrough has high crime levels, a severe drug problem, health problems and poor GCSE results, placing it at the end of the house pile.
Health problems are pretty critical, with over a quarter of people living there stating that they regularly binge drink.
Crime, that is, burglary, robbery, sexual assaults, car theft and violent crimes are all twice the UK's average.
The other four places in the top five best places to live are: Winchester, Epsom &Ewell, Waverley and Mole Valley.
The four other places in the bottom places to live are Kingston upon Hull, Newham, Nottingham and Merthyr Tydfil.
Nottingham offered entertainment and shopping , however, fell in the ranking due to high crime levels.
