Northern Ireland is in the lead in terms of house prices.
The best place for house price growth in 2006 was Northern Ireland . Halifax data highlights that the average house price in Northern Ireland went up 37% in the last year, which makes this the biggest increase anywhere in the UK.
Northern Ireland also has the top 10 fastest house price growing towns, with average property values up 55% in the last 12 months in Craigavon in County Armagh and Newtownards in County Down.
House prices in Scotland also increased dramatically, going up 22.4% in the last 12 months, with Greater London (up 14.9%) and south west England (up 14.1%) the next quickest rising UK regions.
For the first time this means that the average house price in each UK town is presently above £100,000 and the average house price in Northern Ireland is currently above £200,000.
It is not likely that house prices are going to continue as such as there is a great deal of pressure on householders' finances, due to last August's interest rate rise. There is also less housing market activity.
Nationally, house prices went up 2.8% in the first three months of 2007, well below the 4.2% increase in the last three months of 2006.
