Home Decoration Prior to Selling is Misplaced

Mon, 02 Apr 2007
Homeowners who invest in property decorations may be wasting their time and money .

According to new research from Yorkshire Bank a third of homeowners spend money on decorating their home prior to selling it, with a similar number of buyers redecorating once they they moved in.

The numbers of people spending money on preparing their homes prior to selling is rising, with a quarter of homeowners intending to hire a professional to make sure their handiwork does not devalue their property.

DIY can assist in showing a house in the best possible way when you are attempting to sell it. If you are unsure it is of course highly advisable to get in the professionals.

It is best to stick to neutral colours and simple and stylish fittings. Thus, your hard work may not go to waste.

Yet investment in the way a property looks is not as important as its energy efficiency.

1 in 8 buyers avoid a house that is not energy efficient irregardless of the way it looks. This rises to 1first time buyer in 5.

Energy efficient homes, whether motivated by global warming concerns or heating bills, is moving up that wish list.

Brand new kitchens as well as bathrooms add value and it is sensible to keep the colour schemes straightforward so prospective buyers are attracted to a blank canvas. Practical improvements, such as, cavity wall insulation, as opposed to cosmetic ones are growing in appeal.
