London house prices have gone up by 50% in 2006

Rightmove reveals that house prices have increased by 50% in 2006 in London, many 50% higher than they were in October last year.

Kensington and Chelsea 's average asking price is presently over £1m, 8.8% higher than October 2006 and 55% higher than November 2006, online estate agent Rightmove highlights.

House prices have not just risen in London, average house prices in England and Wales are 1.5% higher than October, at £222,333. Thus asking prices have increased 12.4% on average in 2005 across England and Wales .

Sellers in the South are responsible for national house price growth rate going into double figures, confirmed Rightmove.

Moreover, house prices are 10% higher than a year ago in the south-west, the south-east and East Anglia, increasing by between 14% to 18%.

The North has been affected too in terms of house price growth rate.

Yorkshire and Humberside house prices went up 3.8%, with prices in the East Midlands, the north and north-west of England going up more than the average figure of 1.5%.
