800,000 UK Residents Have Bought Abroad

Wed, 22 Nov 2006
The number of Britons investing in overseas property has increased 45% in the last two years.

Recent Mintel research illustrates that there are 800,000 UK residents with an overseas home.

There has been an increase of 250,000 more than two years ago.

House buying in Britain is booming so it is understandable that British citizens are looking abroad to invest .

There has been increasing interest in the overseas property market , due to owning a second home abroad becoming sought after by an ever greater proportion of the population.

The trend looks like it is going to continue for those wishing to make money quickly or those looking for a holiday retreat abroad.

The low interest rate has enabled would be property buyers to take advantage of pretty cheap borrowing.

The main reason is that people are looking for the warmer weather overseas; 51% of Brits gave that as their reason for wanting to move.

Furthermore, making money motivates 40% of people buying overseas property, with 38% wishing to take their children and family abroad.

The buy to let market is buoyant and is now extending overseas.
