House prices are up 8% in April, Halifax reports.
House prices have gone up 2% in April, to 8% higher than at the same time in 2005, according to the Halifax house price index.
The largest annual increase for 13 months means house prices have gone up 4.4% in the first four months of 2006 to £178,992.
The 2% jump in house prices in April represents a real shock, as house prices go up excessively.
But while heavily out of step with other property market indicators, the Nationwide recorded a 0.1% rise and Hometrack recorded a 0.6% increase in April, with the Halifax claiming that the results were not unexpected.
The steady growth of the first four months of 2006 is unlikely to continue.
