Renting Welsh properties is not as expensive as buying a property over a 25-year period.
The Abbey National has for the first time brought out the annual Rent vs Buy report which highlights places in the UK where householders would be better off renting rather than buying .
The cost of buying a property over 25 years is on average £379,341, which render it cheaper than renting, which costs on average £403,173.
Tenants in Wales can save £27,416 when buying property over 25 years, whereas, in the south-west they can save £21,009.
Buying a property of course has many plus points, with the homeowner free to make alterations as they wish. They of course also own the property at the termination of the mortgage term.
On the other hand, there are places in the country where huge savings can be made from buying a property.
East Scotland homeowners can save £81,157 over 25 years as a result of buying, and in west Scotland they can save £69,779.
Greater London is without doubt the most expensive area to buy and the south-east the most expensive area in which to rent.
West Scotland has the cheapest properties, while Northern Ireland is the cheapest area to rent.
