The Halifax have brought out their own research as to what adds value to a home .
The survey questioned 1,000 people as to which home improvements they thought would add value to a home.
A fitted, modern kitchen was the home improvement that is most likely to add value to a home, with 29% selecting this option.
Double glazing as well as a conservatory were next with 8%; 7% chose an extension or other rooms, with 6% choosing central heating .
A lovely garden was mentioned by 43% as the best way of creating a good impression.
The lounge is the most significant room in the house, so say 36% of respondents, with kitchens coming second with 34% of the vote.
40% of men chose sitting room, with 32% of women going for it, Whereas, 43% of women chose kitchen, in contrast to 25% of men.
Kitchens are also on the top of the list of rooms people most wanted changing, 25% exactly.
Bathrooms came next at 16% and sitting rooms third with 11%.
