Who would have thought it yet Scotland's Alexandria and Coatbridge are at the top of 2005's UK house price league table.
The Bank of Scotland's recent survey shows that the average house price in Alexandria and Coatbridge was 35% in 2005.
In acutality, Scottish properties out-performed UK ones generally, with 9 out of the 20 highest-growing house prices in the UK in Scottish towns.
This rise in house prices north of the border has brought about a narrowing of the gap between property values in Scotland and the south of England.
Properties in southern England now cost 2.0 more than those north of the border. Whereas that figure was 2.1 a year ago.
Martin Ellis, Bank of Scotland chief economist, said: "2005 is Scotland's year with nine of the 20 towns in the UK delivering the biggest price increases located north of the border.
"House price growth in Scotland continues to outpace the UK average and this trend is expected to continue into 2006. Despite the recent increases, Scotland is the most affordable part of the UK."
