First Time Buyers Not Taking Heed of Mortgage Advice

Tue, 21 Feb 2006
Most first-time buyers are not getting professional advice when entering the property market .

70% of first-time buyers consider independent mortgage advice as important, with 20% going to an independent financial adviser prior to buying, IFA Promotion data reveals.

Twice as many home-owners go to independent financial advisers when remortgaging.

First-time buyers tend to concentrate on securing their first home rather than the best value home loan they can get unlike more experienced homeowners.

18% of those wanting to get onto the property ladder for the first time visit an IFA, with 43% visiting a building society or a bank .

64% consider it important to receive independent financial advice when seeking mortgage protection or investment products relating to a mortgage, as is the case for 80% of mortgages.

People on the property ladder are more likely to get advice, with 30% consulting an IFA when re-mortgaging, so IFA Promotion figures show.
